About Me

I am a multi-talented strategic generalist and user researcher, and am adept at thinking creatively and solving complex problems. I work well in collaboration with others and enjoy being an ambassador of design thinking and creative strategy. I have a particular affinity for data visualizations and visual communications.
I am skilled in orchestrating multi-part projects, managing teams, and interacting with clients to promote creativity and productivity. I like making things more efficient and love working within existing constraints. I enjoy a challenge and time to play. I endorse practicality and have a fascination with how people, environment, and technology interact.

I am your standard everyday MacGyver, finding unusual solutions to the usual problems. I weave and bob through the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, that befall us all daily. I began playing with our world in the cradle and will continue until the grave. I believe our ability to play is the divine spark within us. Once upon a time I studied and worked in international business and marketing. Gathering a few skills like speaking English, Spanish, and Polish, or playing Ultimate Frisbee (yes, it’s a sport) have occupied my time nicely so far, but all these things are simply results of playing within the world. I work smartly, love fiercely, and play everywhere. My hope for the future is to help find simple, clean, and fun ways to communicate complicated information to all people. Everyone has a right to know and understand their world.

I was born and grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, U.S.A. I received Bachelor of Science Degrees in International Business, Spanish, and Marketing from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. I now am the proud owner of a Masters Degree in Design Ethnography from the University of Dundee in Scotland. My main intellectual interests include studying people at the crux of tough decisions. Particularly interesting to me is how people transfer knowledge amongst themselves and creating new methods for transferring knowledge and brainstorming. I now live in Australia and spend my time delightfully occupied at Deloitte Australia and happily at home with my partner Aaron & dog Charlie.

  1. Design Ethnography

Are you saying we should flirt with our audience first, and after getting their interest, provide our message?

Is that why public speakers often start with a joke? Not only to warm up the crowd, but to “flirt” with the most enduring and least offensive means of communicating, that is, with a good laugh?

    I’ll buy it!

    • Yes that is mostly what I mean, but for me it means that creating the flirtation brings people’s attention to the knowledge they are missing and hopefully they get interested and pay attention.

  2. Hi Alicia. Good to see you here. I stumbled across your blog (which by the way I found extremely easy yet useful) as I have been researching on design ethnography, as a suitable career path. Basicaly looking at university programs, their graduates, what they do, what kind of roles they take, kind of organizations etc. I was wondering if you would be around to speak sometime, I would really value your advice/suggestions, if any. Do let me know how this works for you.. Thank you very much and hope you have a great week.
